Owner's Manual

Look after your kayak.

Treated well, an Edge Alnes will give you many seasons on the water. Here's how to care for, store, transport, and repair it.

Ch. 01 — Care & Maintenance

How to take care
of your kayak.

01

Keep it out of the sun

Lengthy exposure to sunlight can fade your boat's bright colour, weaken the hatch covers, and deform plastic elements — especially when left on top of a car with tight straps.

02

Keep it clean

Wash your kayak inside and out with fresh water after every use. Rinsing off sea water helps preserve the metal parts.

03

Keep it covered

Use a cockpit cover to keep the inside of your kayak both clean and protected from the sun.

04

Skeg maintenance

Regularly rinse the skeg blade and slider areas to keep them running freely.

05

Tight hatches

If the hatches are difficult to fit, apply a little silicone spray to ease the job.

06

Deck lines

Keep deck lines neat, and inspect the ropes for damage and tears regularly.

07

Damage & gelcoat scratches

Inspect the gelcoat for damage regularly. Scratches through the gelcoat should be repaired.

Ch. 02 — Storage & Transport

Off the water.

Storage

When storing your kayak outside, keep it upside-down — the best way to keep it dry. Keep it out of direct sunlight to preserve the hatches, ropes, and gelcoat pigment, which fades under UV light. If you store the kayak under a tarp, make sure there's enough ventilation; trapped moisture can lead to osmosis.

Transport

When transporting by car, use a padded roof rack or a cradle with webbing straps.

Ch. 03 — Repairs & Colours

Gelcoat repair

It's fairly easy to repair damage and scratches to the gelcoat — the very outer layer of the kayak. For a repair kit, we advise contacting our partner Siddis AS, a supplier of products from Gazechim Composites AS. They can provide the right colour in the appropriate quantity, plus everything else needed for composite repairs and the specialist knowledge to go with it.

Improving UV protection

To improve UV protection, we advise waxing the kayak with Maxolen Liquid Hard Wax M2 — a liquid wax for long-term protection of varnish and gelcoat.

Ch. 04 — Warranty

Five-year
warranty.

Edge Kayak AS warrants all kayaks to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for five years from the date of purchase. This warranty applies to the original owner for purchases made directly from Edge Kayak or an authorised Edge Kayak dealer. Proof of purchase, such as the original invoice, is required to claim coverage. During the warranty period, any kayak found to have defects will be repaired or replaced, at the place of purchase, free of charge.

The warranty does not cover damage resulting from abuse, misuse, negligence, towing, accidental damage, or normal wear and tear, and does not apply to commercial use, rentals, outfitters, or demonstration boats. Edge Kayak reserves the right to determine whether the terms of the warranty have been properly complied with by the owner.

How to make a warranty claim

To pursue a claim, contact your dealer — they are best placed to advise whether you have grounds for one. You'll be asked to provide:

  • Your name, address, telephone number & email address
  • A description of the problem
  • A description of what happened, and any witnesses
  • Why you feel it is a warranty problem
  • Kayak serial number (located at the stern or inside the cockpit)
  • Date of purchase
  • Proof of purchase
